A boarding house different from all others…
In one of the historical buildings surrounding the Square of Peace, built in an old Evangelical high school, we created a unique boarding house. The historical surroundings and decor give it a special atmosphere.
The boards that decorate the entrance to the boarding house are the stone epitaphs by Johann Christian Leubscher, the first rector of the school, and Georg Johann Aßmann, its first pro-rector. One of the boards, funded in the 18th century by students for their teachers, is decorated with a globe coiled by a snake (the symbol of sin) and a butterfly (the soul flying up to the heavens). Outside the window one can see the Church of Peace, the 300-year-old belfry and the old lime trees. History, greenery and silence – all in one view.
All our rooms have bathrooms decorated with hand-painted tiles, and are equipped with towels, toiletries and hair dryers. In every room the bedlinen is hypoallergenic and embroidered, while there is Wi-Fi available free of charge and a TV set too. Each room is different:
No. 1 – small and very cosy, ideal for one person.
No. 2 – with a double bed, plus 300-year-old tie-beams and angels.
No. 3 – bright, with dyed furniture, a large bathroom and an original arched ceiling. Contains two beds (single and double). Situated on the ground floor and adapted for disabled people.
No. 4 – a two-room suite with a floor made of old broad dark boards, with a stylish wardrobe and a table. Here, history is at your fingertips – next to the bed we exposed a fragment of the wall to show a 300-year-old structure, namely a wooden frame filled with straw and clay.
No. 5 – cosy, for two people.
No. 6 – a suite for three, exceptionally spacious and elegant, furnished with antiques and modern furniture.
Breakfasts (included in the price) are served in a cosy dining room decorated with a ticking clock, antiques and books. There is a car park available to guests free of charge. The guests may also visit the church and see the exhibition “The Treasures of the Church of Peace” free of charge (the exhibition contains priceless old prints, paintings, liturgical vessels and extraordinary Bibles that were previously only available to scientists).
In 2014, our boarding house won the Award of Excellence by the Booking.com website. The average rate given by our guests was 9.4. Our customers appreciated our high standards of service and the exceptional atmosphere of the BarocCorner and the Peace Square.
